ChatGPT vs Claude vs Gemini — which AI platform actually delivers for business owners in 2026?
If you're a business owner in Malta (or anywhere else), you've probably tried at least one AI chatbot by now. But with OpenAI's ChatGPT, Anthropic's Claude, and Google's Gemini all competing for your attention, it's hard to know which one deserves your time and money. This isn't a technical benchmark article. It's a practical, honest comparison based on how these tools perform for real business tasks — the kind of work we teach in our AI automation courses in Malta.
Quick overview: what each platform offers
ChatGPT (OpenAI)— The most well-known AI assistant. The paid version (ChatGPT Plus/Pro) includes GPT-4o and the o-series reasoning models, image generation with DALL-E, web browsing, code execution, file analysis, and a growing plugin ecosystem. It also offers a robust API for building automations.
Claude (Anthropic)— Known for nuanced, careful writing and strong analytical abilities. Claude offers a very large context window (can process entire books or lengthy documents at once), excellent instruction following, and a focus on safety and accuracy. The API integrates well with automation platforms like Make and Zapier.
Gemini (Google)— Google's AI, deeply integrated with Google Workspace (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Drive). Its standout feature is native access to Google Search data and the ability to work directly within the tools many businesses already use daily.
Writing and content creation
This is where most business owners start. All three platforms can draft emails, blog posts, social media captions, and marketing copy. But there are meaningful differences:
- ChatGPTproduces versatile, confident writing. It's excellent at matching different tones and styles. However, it can sometimes be overconfident — stating things as fact that need verification.
- Claudetends to produce more thoughtful, nuanced writing. It's particularly strong for longer documents, detailed reports, and content that requires careful reasoning. It's more likely to flag uncertainties rather than bluff.
- Geminiis solid for shorter content and benefits from being able to pull in current information from the web. Its writing can sometimes feel more generic, but it's improving rapidly.
Verdict: For daily business writing, ChatGPT and Claude are both excellent. Claude edges ahead for longer, more nuanced content. Gemini wins if you need real-time web data in your writing.
Data analysis and spreadsheets
Business owners frequently need to make sense of sales data, financial reports, or customer feedback. Here's how they compare:
- ChatGPThas a built-in code interpreter that can upload, analyse, and visualise data from CSV and Excel files. You can ask questions in plain English and get charts, summaries, and insights. It's powerful but occasionally makes calculation errors on complex datasets.
- Claudeexcels at analysing large documents and datasets thanks to its large context window. Upload a 100-page financial report and ask specific questions — Claude handles this better than the competition. It doesn't generate charts natively but provides clear, well-structured textual analysis.
- Gemini integrates directly with Google Sheets, so you can analyse data without uploading anything. For businesses already in the Google ecosystem, this is genuinely convenient.
Verdict: ChatGPT for visual data analysis, Claude for large document analysis, Gemini for Google Sheets users.
Automation and integration
For AI automation — connecting AI to your business tools and workflows — the API matters more than the chat interface:
- ChatGPT/OpenAI APIhas the largest ecosystem. Almost every automation platform (Make, Zapier, n8n) has native OpenAI integration. Documentation is extensive, and you'll find the most tutorials and examples online.
- Claude APIis well-supported on major platforms and is often preferred for tasks requiring careful, accurate outputs — like classifying customer enquiries or reviewing documents. Its pricing is competitive.
- Gemini APIis newer but benefits from tight Google Cloud integration. If your business runs on Google Workspace, Gemini's native integrations can be simpler to set up.
Verdict:OpenAI has the widest integration support. Claude offers the best accuracy for critical tasks. Gemini is easiest if you're all-in on Google.
Pricing comparison (April 2026)
Prices change frequently, but as of April 2026:
- ChatGPT Plus: $20/month for individual use. Pro plan at $200/month for heavy users.
- Claude Pro: $20/month. Team plan available for businesses.
- Gemini Advanced: Included with Google One AI Premium at $20/month, which also includes 2TB of Google storage.
All three offer free tiers with limited usage. For API usage, costs depend on volume — but for most small business automations, expect to spend EUR 5–50 per month on API calls.
Privacy and data handling
This matters especially in Malta, where businesses handle EU customer data under GDPR:
- ChatGPT: Business and Enterprise plans offer data privacy guarantees (your data isn't used for training). The free and Plus plans may use your conversations for improvement unless you opt out.
- Claude: Does not use your conversations for training by default. Clear data retention policies. Popular with legal and financial firms for this reason.
- Gemini: Google Workspace plans include enterprise data protections. Free tier conversations may be reviewed by humans.
Our recommendation for Malta business owners
There's no single “best” AI. The right choice depends on your specific needs:
- Choose ChatGPT if you want the most versatile all-rounder with the largest ecosystem of integrations and tutorials.
- Choose Claudeif accuracy and careful reasoning matter most — especially for legal, financial, or compliance-heavy work.
- Choose Gemini if your business lives in Google Workspace and you want the simplest possible setup.
Many business owners end up using two or even all three for different tasks. That's perfectly fine. The important thing is to start using AI consistently, not to agonise over which one is “the best.” In our AI automation courses, we show you how to use all three platforms and help you decide which fits your workflow.
